Migrant Head Start Program

 

Eligibility

· Open to children  between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old

· Open to low-income families; families must meet income guidelines

· At least 51% of the families income must come from agricultural work

· At least one parent must be employed in agricultural work at the time of
child enrollment

· Children with diagnosed disabilities may be considered for enrollment
regardless of income

· Center open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Monday through Friday of each week
during the center months

 

· Transportation is provided to and from the center on a daily basis

 

 

The Migrant Head Start Program provides comprehensive programming and services to children and their families as:

 

Education

· Developmental screenings and ongoing assessment of child skills

· Learning experiences which support and help children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically

· Field trips to enhance and support the program’s curriculum

· Program uses the Creative Curriculum (Infants, Toddler and Pre-K) and the Project Approach (Pre-K) to guide and support child learning goals.

 

 

Health and Wellness

· Health education for children and families

· Medical and dental services and follow-up

· Immunizations

· Transition of records to other agencies as approved by parent

 

 

Disability and Mental Health Services

· Support of a contractual mental health consultant to children and their families

· Screening and ongoing assessment for all children leading to individualized child planning

· Referrals as may be needed

· Transportation to diagnostic appointments as able

· Advocacy and support to parents

· Inclusive classroom activities to meet individual child needs

 

 

Nutrition Services

· Daily breakfast, lunch and snack for all children

· Meals meet USDA requirements, are health y and are culturally appropriate

· Nutrition education for children and parents

· Curriculum aimed at addressing childhood obesity concerns

· Support of a contractual registered dietician

 

 

Parent Involvement

· Parents are welcome at the center at any time; parent volunteering is encouraged

· Monthly parent committee meetings and educational opportunities

· Opportunities to participate in program decision-making through involvement on Policy Committee or the state-wide Policy Council

· Opportunities to support classroom and curriculum planning

· Parents as partners

· Home visits

 

 

Social Services

· Family Partnership building opportunities

· Referrals to community resources
